Ariel May is a music educator, conductor, and singer who has taught music for almost 20 years. Her teaching journey includes choir and general music for K-8th grade, as well as faculty positions for voice, choir, and piano at Fullerton College and the Young Americans College of Performing Arts. Ariel served as the Director of Vocal Music at Canyon High School, where she led five choirs, taught songwriting, and directed an a cappella group. She has taken her choirs on seven performance tours, including to Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, and San Francisco. Her choirs have recorded at Disneyland and performed at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Ariel’s mission is to empower singers to connect with their authentic voice, strengthen their musicianship, and create joyful connections through music. A California native, she earned her B.M. in Music Education from Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music, and K–12 teaching credential and M.A. in Teaching Music from UC Irvine. In addition to leading Horizon Choir, Ariel is a private voice teacher, choir director and music teacher at Nevada City School of the Arts, chorus conductor for Music in the Mountains, and choir director at Sierra College in Grass Valley. She performs in a jazz duo with her husband and has been a featured soloist with Music in the Mountains and Auburn Symphony. When not making music, Ariel enjoys baking, camping, and crocheting with her kids. |
